When engineering an invention or a solution to a problem or situation, a thourough "definition of the problem and/or objective" is always a very neccessary step that ensures that the best possible solution and/or design is arrived at.
It is the hope of the authors of this Slide Show that this Show is received in the spirit in which it is intended -- not as a "list" of "gripes" or "beefs" as it were but instead as an effort to provide assistance and to otherwise be of help and of benefit.
Simply put, our objectives in putting together this Slide Show include the provision of information so as to provide a better understanding of how the following items impact the success and/or degree of difficulty in the accomodation of wheelchair users and, where applicable, other persons with disabilities:
* the funding levels and the regulatory/ procedural constraints of government regulatory agencies,
* the types of transit vehicles operated by a given transit-providing entity,
* the types of transit vehicles offered or not offered by transit vehicle manufacturers,
* the extent to which fully accessible and usable stops and other locations in a given community at which the boarding of and disembarking from transit vehicles take place are available, and
* the performance of transit vehicle operators.
