THE WHEELCHAIRS

As we begin our discussion of the "wheelchairs" factor, we again present the material featured on page 6 of the Introduction as this "lays the framework" for the discussion in this section:

"Question 1: What kind of terrain and how much space, manuevering room, and time does a wheelchair user or other person with a disability need in order to board and disembark from a transit vehicle at a bus stop or other location and to manever and to ride on board the transit vehicle itself?"

"To answer Question # 1, we need to evaluate those factors involving wheelchairs:

"- wheelchair type, size, and configuration,

"- how wheelchairs are maneuvered, and

"- the challenges faced by wheelchair users in the operation of their wheelchairs."

Before we proceed to that, however, it is important that we provide a few comments regarding wheelchair-related terminology as used in this "Slide Show":
