Question 2: Is a given transit vehicle
designed and constructed in such a manner so
as to allow:
- the operator to position it as quickly and
accurately as possible for the lift or ramp
operation?
- the wheelchair user to get onto or off of the
vehicle's lift or ramp easily and safely?
- the wheelchair user to manuever between the
lift/ramp area and the wheelchair securement or
parking area easily and safely?
- the wheelchair user, the vehicle operator or,
if applicable, the wheelchair user's
assistant to be able to attach and release the
securement devices as safely, effectively, and
as quickly as possible?
- the wheelchair user to be able to ride on
board the vehicle in safety and comfort?
To answer Question 2 we need to consider those
factors involving transit vehicles:
- how a transit vehicle is designed,
- the type and design of the system used to
board and disembark wheelchair passengers and
other persons with disabilities,
- the amount of space available in each
wheelchair securement or parking area,
- the amount of space on board a transit
vehicle for wheelchair users to be able to
move to and from the wheelchair securement
and/or parking areas, and
- the wheelchair securement components and/or
systems on board a given transit vehicle.
