The series of bitmap drawings below shows a series of wheelchair type 180-degree left turnaround drawings in smallest-to-largest order followed by an overlay composite bitmap drawing that compares all of the 180-degree left turnarounds directly to each other.
Please note in the drawings an important difference between the first three and the latter two types.
In the case of the later power wheelchair, the manual wheelchair, and the later rehab chair, the center of the wheelchair travels over the center of the turn "track". In fact, the center of the wheelchair enters and exits the turnaround over the same "track".
In the case of the earlier power and rehab wheelchairs and the scooter wheelchair, the center of each of these chairs travels some distance to the right of the "track" center. Thus, both of these wheelchair types travel outside the center of the turn "track". The inside wheel -- the left wheel -- of the earlier power and rehab wheelchairs travel over the "track" center on both turnaround entry and exit. The scooter wheelchair travels completely outsice the "track" centerline, entering and exiting on opposite sides of it.
These drawings graphicly illustrate the difference in the lesser manuevering room in the turnaround needed by the first three wheelchair types and the greater manuevering room needed by the latter two types -- especially the scooter wheelchair.
